Hi All

Haven't been on the site for years but thought it was time I got back in touch. Went to my rheumatologist yesterday and my RA is sadly not at all controlled anymore on the methotrexate and plaquenil and she is starting me on sulfasalazine for two months then putting me forward for biologics. In the meantime she game me an IM injection of Depomedrone 80mg to hopefully tide me over. Does anyone know how quick it takes to work as no effect as yet?

when I had injection into the joint before it worked almost instnatly.

Welcome back Ruth.

Responses can vary from no effect at all to instant to several days. So it will be a few days before you can be certain that it has had no effect. I must say that steroid injections have seldom helped me - but we are all different.

thanks Paul,
when I had my knee injected locally with 8omg Depomedrone it was brilliant for about a month so fingers crossed this will take effect soon. I guess the IM injection has to slowly be absorbed into your body.

Hi Ruth

Have had injections in both hips and it took 24 hours to have any effect. Hope that you will soon be feeling better.

Best wishes
Lisa

Hi Ruth,

Injectable steroids and I have a long relationship and I have always found them helpful.
The only draw back I found was they gave me insomniaSad

Good Luck

hi Ruth,

welcome from me,

iv'e had about 6 depo steroids when i was newly diagnosed until i got under control,

have to say the first one worked like a miracle, CRP/ESR went right down, and no pain, felt totally different right way. out of the remaining one's about 2 others worked well, and 3 did nothing. i came out in hive's after the last two, only about 6 and they went as quick as they came but decided i didn't want anymore.

they do say it's best if you can rest up for a couple of days after having them,

hoping by now it may have worked for you.

Thanks for the replies, yes feeling a wee bit better today, my knees are less stiff, though definitely not up to kneeling yet, and wrists a little better although shoulders still awful during the night. Feeling not as fatigued so that is always a good sign!!

Not quite 48 hours yet so hopefully will continue to improve. Think it must take bit longer for the IM injections to work, as when I had injection into the joint before it worked immediately.

Take care all
